PRIVATE PILOT

The Private Pilot Rating allows individuals to operate aircraft for personal and recreational purposes. This certification is an essential stepping stone for those wishing to pursue a career in aviation or simply enjoy flying as a hobby.

Requirements:

  1. Age: Must be at least 17 years old.

  2. Medical Certificate: Obtain a minimum Class 3 medical certificate from an FAA-authorized aviation medical examiner.

  3. Written Exam: Pass the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test, which covers various topics including regulations, navigation, weather, and aircraft operation.

  4. Flight Training: Complete a minimum of 40 flight hours, which must include:

    • At least 20 hours of flight training with an instructor.

    • At least 10 hours of solo flight time.

    • Specific training on cross-country, night flying, and instrument procedures.

  5. Checkride: Successfully complete a practical test (checkride) with an FAA-designated pilot examiner, demonstrating proficiency in flight maneuvers and understanding of pilot responsibilities.

Upon meeting these criteria, individuals will be equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to safely operate as a private pilot.

Instrument Rating

An instrument rating is an approval added to a pilot's license that authorizes the holder to fly in a wider range of weather conditions, specifically under instrument flight rules (IFR). This rating is essential for pilots who wish to operate aircraft in situations where visibility is limited, such as flying in clouds or inclement weather.

Requirements:

  1. Eligibility: The applicant must hold at least a private pilot certificate.

  2. Flight Hours: A minimum of 40 hours of instrument flight training, with at least 15 hours from an authorized instructor.

  3. Cross-Country Flight: At least 50 hours of cross-country pilot-in-command time, with 10 of those hours in an instrument-equipped aircraft.

  4. Written Exam: Completion of a FAA-approved written examination covering subjects such as navigation, meteorology, and instrument approaches.

  5. Flight Test: Successful completion of a practical flight test (checkride) demonstrating proficiency in instrument flying.

These requirements ensure that pilots are adequately prepared to navigate and operate aircraft safely in IFR conditions.

  2. Eligibility: The applicant must hold at least a private pilot certificate.

  3. Language: Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English.

  4. Medical Certificate: Hold at least a second-class medical certificate issued by an FAA-authorized aviation medical examiner.

  5. Flight Hours: Accumulate a minimum of 250 total flight hours, which must include:

    • 100 hours of pilot-in-command time.

    • 50 hours of cross-country flight time.

    • 20 hours of flight training with an instructor.

    • 10 hours of solo flight time.
